Engagement Session in Clawson, MI with a Northern Michigan Feel

This one meant a lot. I’ve been photographing Megan and her family since she was a little girl, so being the one to capture this next chapter in her life, her engagement to Liam, was a full-circle kind of moment. The kind that hits right in the heart.
First Date Memories
We kicked off their engagement session at a place that holds a whole lot of meaning for them: Renshaw Lounge in Clawson. It’s not just their favorite hangout, it’s where they had their first date. Since then, it’s become a staple in their story and a place where they’ve built friendships and shared countless memories.
Renshaw has an old-school vibe, with black walls and classic memorabilia of music legends, movie icons, and sports greats lining the space. The vibe is cool and personal to them. We grabbed a drink, caught up, and I snapped some photos while we shared laughs in their element. This is the energy I love, documenting the real moments.
Northern Michigan Feel
From there, we headed over to Douglas Evans Nature Preserve. Tucked off Evergreen just north of 13 Mile, this 18-acre nature area is a quiet little pocket of wild. The preserve is meant to stay natural and untouched, and that’s exactly what it feels like with fields of wildflowers, winding trails, and peaceful views of the river and creek.
The contrast between the two spots couldn’t have been better. Renshaw’s has the city vibe that Liam grew up in, being all about their shared history, and the preserve is this calming, Northern Michigan feel that brought Megan back to her roots. She grew up surrounded by nature in Grayling, so she felt right at home wandering through the wildflowers and trails.
Megan and Liam moved through the session with ease, laughter, and genuine connection. It was such a joy to witness. It was relaxed, meaningful, and them. I couldn’t be more honored to help tell this part of their story.
